The main climate changes that have started to be felt, and which will worsen over the following decades, have led to the following: a rise in temperature and extreme phenomena with the occurrence of flooding, drought and storms with an intensification of winds, heat waves, among others.

 
In view of the risks associated to climate change, the Banco Espírito Santo Group has taken a number of steps aimed at countering climate change.

Rio+20 Conference

BES was invited to take part in the portuguese pavillion of Rio+20 Conference. This is one of the main events, on climate change, organized in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at a crucial time for the planet and the future of our own species, and will have a visibility and impact planetariums. Issues of sustainability of human activities, the exploitation of natural resources, well-being of human populations, the economy Green, biodiversity, will be extensively reviewed and discussed.

BES activities in promoting biodiversity, sustainability and the environment in general are now a brand of the Bank recognized nationally and internationally.
