|
The Portuguese Math Olympics, organised every year by the Portuguese Society for Mathematics, are a contest of mathematical problem solving targeting students of the 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education, and secondary education students, with the aim of encouraging and developing a liking for Mathematics.
The contest consists of a set of problems that mainly appeal to the student’s reasoning powers, creativity and imagination. One of the objectives is the early detection of scientific vocations, particularly in mathematics. In fact, the organisers are glad to see that many of the winners of previous editions of the PMO have embarked on careers in science that promise to be quite successful.
Banco Espírito Santo, whose objectives are aligned to those of the PMO, has included this initiative in its Financial Literacy Programme and become its sponsor.
